Creating a Virtual Memorial
Apr 09, 2020
Write an obituary
Research and choose a conference calling platform that allows everyone to call in, if they have no internet (Google Hangouts, Zoom, Go To meeting, Skype, Slack). If you wish to record the memorial, be sure the platform you choose allows you to do so.
Pick a Date, typically within 3 weeks of the passing
Choose 2 leaders for the ceremony and/or hire a professional facilitator (funeral director, clergy person, death doula, Celebrant). One leader must focus on technology issues and helping everyone who may be having issues logging in and getting access to the group. The other leader will speak and help facilitate the memorial, according to the well-thought out program.
Involve friends and family to create the program. (Email example is below) You may ask the spouse or parent of the deceased, the closest people, to be involved, but not lead the memorial.
Deal with controversies beforehand
Create Memorial Program: Plan for THREE components to the service – a beginning, middle, and an end. Free templates found on Canva.com
